This summer has been brutal. And while most racing hasn’t seriously started in the states, you can bet that the heat will be a factor in the fall.
Always keep fresh water, clean water, and clean drinkers at your pigeons’ disposal. Let’s face it, pigeons are notorious for indiscriminately pooping where they want. This includes right back into their water. And even if they don’t aim for it, sometimes a flying pigeon will kick some droppings into the water. This is not good during the summer. That’s a petri dish of bacteria just waiting to happen, bad bacteria that will hurt your pigeon’s overall health.
Check on them frequently and change out their water every day if you can. If your budget and time will allow, using on-demand drinkers is by far the cleanest way to keep their water clean and fresh. They are pretty cheap and easy to get these days.
Don’t forget to give them plenty of chances to bathe. Get a bath pan from your local pigeon supply store if you can, or, you can always use a stainless steel pan as used in cooking, from an online store. These are cheap, the right size, and easy to clean and stack nicely.
